one final dance

a film script i have made for a film class of my electives.  i took a dream time story i was told as a kid and turned it into a short film. 

One Final Dance is a coming-of-age fantasy drama about Brolga, a deadly 17-year-old young Aboriginal woman who lives with an overprotective clan. She is destined to fulfil her duties to maintain the traditions of family and community. Brolga is working hard to become the best dancer in the entire country but on the eve of her 18th birthday, her mother informs her that she must choose between the tribe and her dance. She's devastated. Brolga decides to run off alone and dance on the arid Red Plains near her favourite tree, a large ancient coolabah tree. Seeking a talisman, a rock formation called Waiwera, she encounters evil spirits that promise her she can both dance and be a member of the tribe.

Meanwhile, the tribe is moving in to save her from Waiwera but she refuses to face her destiny. But under the influence of the evil spirits, Brolga fights back against the tribe but the tribe make progress. Waiwera knows that he is in a stalemate and cannot win to keep Brolga. With the help of a Willy Willy at the base of the old Coolabah Tree, Waiwera transforms Brolga into a bird which is her new form.
